Merricks is a small seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula, about an hour south of Melbourne, Australia. Our founder Sarah spent her childhood weekends and holidays at her family's property there, a place they called Plein Air. Later, her daughter Isabelle also spent much of her childhood here.
The kitchen at Plein Air was the center of everything. Sarah's mother (Isabelle's grandmother) cooked from scratch, from the vegetable garden, from what was in season. Quince jam. Chutney. Lumberjack cake. Roast beef. A chicken sandwich people still ask about. Food that tasted like someone cared about it, because someone did.
Those early experiences shaped Sarah's view of what food is supposed to be. Simple. Honest. Made from ingredients you can name. That philosophy followed her to Newport Beach, California, where years later she found herself in the granola aisle, reading labels, and realizing almost nothing in it matched what she believed food should be.
So she made her own. And Merricks Kitchen was named for the place that started it all.
Most food that calls itself healthy is not. It is ultra-processed, sweetened with substitutes, built on seed oils, and padded with synthetic nutrients to compensate for what real food used to provide naturally.
The modern food industry created a problem and then sold people the solution. Ultra-processed ingredients displaced real food. And when the nutritional gaps became impossible to ignore, the answer was to add synthetic vitamins, protein isolates, and lab-created sweeteners back in. Manufactured ingredients designed to compensate for food that stopped doing its job.
Merricks Kitchen rejects that entire cycle.
We make food from whole food ingredients chosen deliberately, for what they contribute nutritionally and how they taste. No shortcuts. No fillers. No manufactured substances dressed up as nutrition. This is the food you would make yourself if you had the time. We had the time. We did the sourcing, the testing, the ratios. You get the result: breakfast that is completely trustworthy, genuinely delicious, and makes you feel the way food is supposed to make you feel.
We hold every product to the Triple Zero standard: zero seed oils, zero refined sugar, zero artificial anything. Not as a marketing position, but as the internal filter that every ingredient and every product must pass. This is food you can trust. And we think that should be the baseline, not the exception.

Most granolas are made with canola oil, sunflower oil, or coconut oil. We use extra virgin olive oil because it contains polyphenols and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats that seed oils don't provide. In an analysis of 56 granola products, only 9 used extra virgin olive oil. We are one of them.
Brekky Mix is hand-crafted in Orange County, California, in small batches. We don't scale production in ways that require changing the formula, extending shelf life with preservatives, or swapping ingredients for cheaper versions. Batch size is a constraint we accept to protect ingredient integrity.
